Giuliana Graul interview project #1
Giuliana and I met at the power and glory, a somewhat famous Cape Town coffee shop (by day) and industry watering hole by night. She was quiet and a little shy. This was her first trip as a model and everything was very new and perhaps far away from home. We chatted for a while and it became clear that she was going to spend as much time at the beach as possible. She didn't know anyone here and felt a little estranged. Without her friends life was going to have to be a series of beach, gym and castings. Hey rather that than a cold, winter in Germany, though I don't think that she was quite convinced yet.
When the day of the shoot came I met a very different Giuliana, she had been here a while now and the paradise that Cape Town can be had charmed her. She had also made a lot of new friends and was enjoying the music festival scene that the city supports every summer. There was definitely a new confidence and she was more comfortable with her trip.
We had decided after our chat that the beach was definitely going to be a good reflection of Giuliana (at least while here in Cape Town). Just before saying goodbye Giuliana added, probably after becoming a little more comfortable with me, a complete stranger, that she also really liked to sing. So armed with a rough sketch of this shy young German model on her first trip abroad I headed of to put together our interview project.
The Cup song
Almost as an afterthought just before Giuliana left I remembered she mentioned that she liked to sing. I filmed a short video of her singing what she told me was called "the cup song". Intrigued I hit record and sat back….
Special thanks
